Clare County Council’s being asked to ‘strengthen’ its County Development Plan in order to protect the local environment.
It follows concerns raised at this week’s meeting of elected representatives that mining and the extraction of minerals may adversely impact land and water quality in the county.
The local authority says while they recognise the contribution extractive industries make to the construction sector, they’re also aware of the ‘serious potential environmental implications’ that can arise from such industry.
Ennis-based Fine Gael Councillor Johnny Flynn says the issue needs to be looked at in greater detail.
