West Clare Has Lowest Rate Of COVID In Ireland

West Clare now has the lowest incidence rate of COVID-19 in Ireland.

All five electoral areas in this county have now seen the prevalence of the virus drop to below the national average.

The Kilrush electoral area covering West Clare saw just 25 new cases confirmed between the 19th of January and this past Monday, 1st of February.

Its rate now stands at 119.1 per 100,000 people – a shade ahead of the Athlone electoral area, meaning it has the lowest prevalence of coronavirus in the country.

The Killaloe area is the next lowest in Clare, standing at 228.8 after 46 new cases were confirmed there in the 14 days up to Monday last.

Localised Health Protection Surveillance Centre data also shows cases in the Shannon locality have almost halved – 73 people there were diagnosed with the disease in the past two weeks, leaving their rate standing at 240.2.

Ennistymon’s rate is 371.8 after 139 cases were diagnosed there in the past fortnight, with Ennis’ at 388.2 as the surrounding areas saw 120 cases confirmed.

However, all regions in Clare are now significantly below the average incidence rate nationally, which is 455 per 100,000 people.
