Shannon Hotelier Insists Jobs Will Be Lost If Wage Subsidy Scheme Not Extended

The Chair of the Shannon Branch of the Irish Hotels Federation believes jobs will be lost in the industry if the wage subsidy scheme isn’t extended to next summer.

It’s after new research from the body revealed hotel revenue fell by over €5 billion as a result of COVID-19, with bookings continuing to remain at low levels.

Room occupancy in this region was at 22 percent for between January and August, with that number expected to remain at a similar level into 2022.
