A Clare FM analysis of official data shows that while there has been a sustained growth in the number of cases, levels aren’t yet approaching those seen in the likes of Donegal and Dublin.

From September 1st – September 14th, 33 cases of COVID-19 were diagnosed in Clare, a figure which was broadly in line with levels seen over the previous period.

But in the two weeks since then, the number of new cases here has jumped in line with an increase in COVID-19 nationally.

Now, figures for the past 14 days show 61 new cases of the coronavirus have been confirmed in Clare, bringing the incidence rate here to 51.3 cases per 100,000 people.

Last night saw 15 further cases of the virus confirmed in Clare, but these are not yet reflected in this data, meaning the actual incidence rate of COVID-19 here is even higher again.

The local authority and An Garda Síochána have issued a plea to individuals, businesses and communities Clare to exercise great care and caution in response to the recent upsurge in cases.

The Council say they will take whatever steps are necessary to protect lives and safeguard public health in this county.

The Gardaí locally have further stated that it will intervene where necessary to ensure compliance.

Areas such as Laois, Leitrim and Limerick, which have previously been the focus of some concern with regards to the virus, now all have lower rates of COVID-19 than Clare.
