NUI Galway Leads Development of Social Distance App

Researchers at NUI Galway are working to develop an app to help people maintain a two-metre distance from each other.

The App, called ‘Spacer’, is designed to make your phone vibrate in your pocket if you stray too close to another person.

The Professor of Medical Device Technology at NUI Galway says that it avoids the worries of data storage that contact tracing apps have.

Professor Derek O’Keeffe has told Clare FM’s Morning Focus that Spacer is about preventing a fire, rather than extinguishing one.
