Fears Clare Businesses Will Take Big Hit Over Coronavirus

While health authorities deal with the coronavirus, it’s feared that it could also have a major economic impact too.

A number of businesses in Clare are fearing a decline in income in the coming weeks, as more cases of the Coronavirus are confirmed.

But while some may be able to weather the strom, Lahinch Hotelier, Michael Vaughan fears that many businesses in Clare will take a big hit, if the Coronavirus outbreak continues for a prolonged period.

He believes a scheme should be put in place to insure businesses against sustained losses.

A board member of Ennis Chamber claims a lack of information surrounding the location of the confirmed cases of coronavirus is leading to acute anxiety among members of the public.

Will Cahir is calling for more leadership from government and authorities, to give confidence to the public.

In particular, he’s calling for more transparent communications and he says the current crisis has made every business owner look at contingency plans.

The President of the Clare Vintners Federation of Ireland, meanwhile, believes that in the absence of leadership, businesses should take ownership of the situation themselves.

Ennis Publican Darragh McAllister says it’s up to employers to lay out a plan for staff.
