Ennis Pensioner Calls For Increased State Pension To Meet COVID Bills

An Ennis pensioner is pleading with the government to increase the state pension as a short-term measure, to allow those with increased household bills meet their costs.

Eddie Kirby from the Summerhill area of the county town has a number of underlying health issues and has been advised by his GP to stay warm during his isolation for the virus outbreak.

However, Eddie’s resources are limited and he is now concerned about the ESB bill coming down the line.

Speaking on Clare FM’s Morning Focus, Eddie explained how difficult his situation is.

The Clare area president of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, meanwhile, says this is a situation that many elderly people are facing during this crisis.

Niamh McDonnell says despite social distancing measures, they are on hand to help out where they are needed.
