Localised data from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre shows the Ennis electoral area, which also includes a number of villages around the county town, had 35 confirmed cases of COVID-19 between the 15th and this past Monday, 28th of September.

It marks a steady increase of the virus in the Ennis area, which has seen fortnightly cases rise from 16, to 26 – and now to 35.

The Kilrush electoral area, meanwhile – which had less than five cases in the first two weeks of this month – had 23 in the past fortnight.

It now means Ennis’ area rate stands at 113.2 per 100,000, with the Kilrush electoral area standing at 109.6 – this compares to a national average of 88.2.

This data does not include the 29 new cases of the virus confirmed in this county over the past 2 days which have caused local health officials alarm.

It’s not yet known where these more recent cases originate.

The Shannon, Ennistymon and Killaloe electoral areas all registered less than five cases in the two weeks before this past Monday – all three areas have maintained a relatively low incidence rate of COVID since the beginning of September.
