Back in October, the Ennis electoral area had one of the highest incidence rates of COVID-19 at Munster, at one stage more than double the national average – that’s now been turned around, and the town and its surrounding areas had less than five cases confirmed in the two weeks up to the past Monday, 7th December.

It’s a similar pattern in the Kilrush region – an area that experienced a significant spike in coronavirus a number of months ago had less than a handful of cases diagnosed there in the past fortnight.

Ennistymon’s area rate has now bottomed out as well, with it now experiencing its lowest level of COVID-19 there since August.

The Killaloe area saw just 16 cases confirmed in the 14 days up to Monday, and even so, is still standing slightly below the national average, with an incidence rate of 79.6 per 100,000.

Shannon saw 15 cases diagnosed in the same timeframe – the area’s higher population means their incidence rate is now even lower, at 49.3 – again the lowest level since the summer.

Clare FM understands just three cases of the virus were confirmed here last night, bringing the county’s current overall incidence rate to X32.8 per 100,000 – only 5 counties are now lower in their prevalence of COVID-19.
