This time last week, more than 1 in 50 people in the Ennis region had been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the previous 14 days – now, however, the rate of the virus per 100,000 people in the electoral area has dropped by more than 66 per cent, to 708.5. 219 cases of COVID were confirmed there in the days between the 12th and the 25th of January.

Ennistymon saw 139 cases in the same timeframe according to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre – while it’s rate has reduced to 847.1, it remains above the national average.

All other areas though are below that – Killaloe saw 103 cases in the past 14 days to stand at 512.2, with Shannon also seeing a reduction of more than half to 434.3, after 132 cases were confirmed there in the past fortnight.

The virus is at its lowest in this county in West Clare – the Kilrush electoral area’s rate of 295.3 per 100,000 people is once again among the lowest in Munster.
