Ennis now has the highest rate of COVID-19 out of Clare’s five local electoral areas, and it’s the only region that’s above the current national average figure.

425 new cases were confirmed in the county town and its environs in the fortnight up to Monday, leaving its rate at 1375 per 100,000 people.

The rate of the virus continues to fall in North Clare.

205 people were diagnosed with COVID in the Ennistymon area in the past 14 days, and its rate sits at 1,249.4.

376 new cases in the Shannon electoral area in the same timeframe mean its incidence rate is now just behind at 1,237.

The Killaloe electoral area also continues to see the prevalence of the virus drop, with 205 new cases there seeing its figure at 1,019.5 per 100,000 people.

West Clare, as it has for a number of weeks now, has the lowest incidence of the virus in the county.

172 new cases there in the two weeks up to Monday see the Kilrush electoral area’s rate at 819.3 per 100,000.
