Clare County Council says it’s in discussions with landowners and businesses in the West of the county about providing additional public car parking spaces this summer.
That’s despite a Clare FM investigation revealing no such initiatives are planned for the East of the county.
The local authority is to receive at least a further €50,000 under a government scheme to assist with outdoor dining.
The local authority and the Clare Garda Division are understood to have a plan in place to deal with what’s anticipated to be extra traffic volumes in the county this Bank Holiday weekend.
While the Council has told Clare FM it’s having conversations with land and business owners in West Clare about supplying extra parking spaces this summer, it says it’s not ‘an overnight solution’ due to the land leasing and planning permission processes that may be required.
However, in the Killaloe municipal district there are no such plans for the summer – though the Council says it has a ‘medium term objective’ in securing more parking spots in Scarriff.
The Council says more than 60 public benches are being maintained in Kilkee alone, with a further 2 wheelchair friendly benches to be in place shortly at George’s Head car park, along with other seating being managed across the region.
In response to queries, the local authority didn’t outline what plans, if any, are in place for additional seating in East Clare.
150 bins are being managed in the West Clare MD, with 30 serviced bins in place in a number of locations in the Killaloe district.
One ‘superloo’ is available in Killaloe town, along with managed facilities at both Mountshannon and Drumaan Harbours.
10 locations in West Clare have public toilets, with superloos in Kilkee and Kilrush to be managed 24/7 this summer.
