Clare’s COVID Cases Reaches 60 As 16 New Deaths Recorded Nationally

A total of 60 people have now been confirmed to have been diagnosed with the coronavirus in Clare.

The latest figures from the National Public Health Emergency Team have revealed that six further diagnoses have been added to the database here, as of midnight on Saturday.

A further 16 deaths nationwide have been recorded, while 70 new cases have been confirmed.

It brings the death toll here to 174, with the total number of confirmed cases now standing at 5,364.

11 of the deaths are located in the east, four in the north west and one in the west of the country, while four of the patients were reported as having underlying health conditions.

The NPHET has also revealed that the percentage of people stockpiling has reduced from a peak of 43% in mid-March to 20% today, while 67% of people are interacting with family and friends over the phone.

Dr. Tony Holohan, Chief Medical Officer, Department of Health, said: “Our research shows overall level of worry remains high at 7 out of 10 but has not increased significantly since the middle of March, despite the introduction of more restrictive measures.”

Dr. Colm Henry, Chief Clinical Officer HSE, said; “Our Healthcare system has been preparing for a surge in COVID-19 cases but it is important to remind people that our hospitals continue to carry out all emergency and essential activity.”
