Clare Tourism Taskforce Chair Says COVID Digital Cert To Provide Much Needed Boost To Sector

The Chair of Clare’s Tourism Taskforce says the reopening of the UK market to non-essential travel will provide a much needed boost to the sector in the Midwest region.

Ireland begins operating the EU Digital Covid Certificate today, which allows people who have been fully vaccinated, have had COVID-19 in the last six months or have had a negative PCR or antigen test to travel without quarantine in the European Union, as well as some third party nations.

Ryanair’s routes operating at Shannon Airport are to double from eight to sixteen, with sun destinations such as Faro, Lanzorate and Corfu to be accessible from the Midwest for those with the certificate.

Clare Tourism Taskforce Chair Sean Lally, of Hotel Woodstock in Ennis, says while there will be little traffic coming in from European coastal areas, the UK market will prove much more fruitful for this region.
