Clare TD Calls On Govt To Provide Clarity On Long Term Strategy For COVID-19

The Clare-based Chair of the Oireachtas COVID-19 Committee is calling on the Government to provide clarity about its long term strategy for suppressing the virus.

The Committee is due to sit later today, when it will hear from HSE CEO Paul Reid, Acting Chief Medical Officer Ronan Glynn and Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly.

Paul Reid will tell the Committee that the country’s health service faces ‘a very difficult period’ and that over 750,000 Covid-19 tests have taken place here so far.

The HSE’s CEO will also express concern at the ‘large number’ of outbreaks in private households, along with sporting and social clubs.

Last night saw seven new cases of the virus confirmed in Clare, bringing to 37 the number of cases here over the past 14 days.

Scariff Independent Deputy Michael McNamara claims it would now appear that the Government’s objective is no longer to completely eliminate the virus.
