A Clare publican says his pub and others around the county have lost up to €100 a day since they were ordered to shut due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

David O Brien’s comments come after a survey from the Vintners Federation of Ireland revealed that two thirds of publicans expect to be out of business by January if current restrictions stay in place.

Over 1,500 publicans have been questioned by the VFI, with four in ten of them being worried about being able to put food on the table.

David, whose pub Michael A’s is based in Milltown Malbay, was himself quizzed for the survey – and says things are getting tight for himself and other publicans.
