This is up from 16 in the previous period reported, and gives the wider electoral area, which includes a number of villages near to Ennis, a higher rate of COVID-19 than the national average.

In the same two weeks, 13 cases have been confirmed in the Kilrush Local Electoral Area, which previously had registered less than five.

In a more welcome trend, there were six cases recorded in the Shannon Electoral Area, down from eleven, while elsewhere, instances of the virus are low with fewer than five cases recorded over the two week period in each of the Ennistymon and Killaloe areas.

Since March, there have been 539 cases of COVID-19 across Co. Clare.

While there is a growth in the number, Scariff GP Dr Conor McGee says there isn’t a need to worry yet, and that people are by and large making efforts to control the spread of the virus.

The Scariff GP says people need to stay strong and keep COVID at bay.
