Almost 1,500 New Covid Cases In Clare In Past Fortnight

Almost 1,500 new cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in Clare in the past fortnight.

It comes as all five of Clare’s electoral areas saw a rise in the incidence of the virus.

Clare’s case numbers have jumped by nearly 12% in the past week.

1,449 positive covid infections were identified in the county in the two weeks up to this Monday.

North Clare saw the biggest increase in the spread of the virus in the past fortnight, as 27% more positive tests were returned in Ennistymon when compared to the previous 14 days.

West Clare meanwhile has the highest incidence of the virus per 100,000 of the population, with an R rate of 1376.6, which is more than 100 higher than the national rate.

Killaloe was the only other area in Clare to record an incidence rate higher than the national average.

It registered 273 new cases, bringing it’s R rate up to 1357.7.

Ennis had the highest number of cases in the county, with 350 contracting the virus in the past two weeks.

Once again, more than one in a hundred people in the Shannon electoral area were found to be covid positive in a two week period, as 330 people tested positive for the virus between November 9th and 22nd.
