3,000 More People Avail Of PUP In Clare In Past Month

There are over 3,000 more people across Clare availing of the Pandemic Unemployment Payment now compared to this time last month.

More than 7,200 people in this county have received the payment this week.

692 people in Clare have been forced to claim the PUP in the past seven days, taking the number availing of the support across the Banner to 7,255.

Level three restrictions were introduced countrywide almost a month ago, and since then, PUP claims have increased in Clare by over 75%.

Over 1,700 of these people have lost their jobs since level five came into effect a fortnight ago.

There are now 329,991 people nationwide claiming the social welfare support, with Clare accounting for over 2% of this figure.

Interestingly, 52 people in Clare signed off the payment in the past seven days despite the country being in the grip of the highest level of restrictions on the government’s COVID-19 roadmap.

Separately, 62 more people have been medically certified for the Enhanced Illness Benefit payment here over the past week, which means they have either been diagnosed with the virus or have had to self-isolate.
