More Than 2,100 PCR-Confirmed Cases Of COVID Confirmed In Clare In Two Weeks

More than 2,100 cases of COVID-19 were confirmed by PCR in Clare in the two weeks up to this past Monday.

New data from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre show Ennis has the highest rate of the virus of this county’s five electoral areas.

The HPSC figures relate to those testing positive through PCR only and don’t take into consideration many more positive antigen tests being registered through the HSE’s online portal.

The only people eligible for PCR tests are those over 55 without a booster shot, the medically vulnerable, people living with medically vulnerable people, pregnant women and healthcare workers.

690 such cases were diagnosed in Ennis in the two weeks up to this past Monday, with its rate of the disease at 2,232.3 per 100,000 people, which is among the highest in Munster.

The Shannon area has the second highest rate of COVID in this county, with 561 cases in the same timeframe leaving its rate at 1,845.6.

The Killaloe region’s figure is just behind at 1,750.5 after 352 cases were confirmed there, while 307 cases in West Clare see its rate sit at 1,462.3 per 100,000 people.

Ennistymon’s rate is the lowest of Clare’s five electoral areas, with 227 new cases in the North of the county meaning its prevalence of the disease is 1,383.5.
