The managing director of Cork Airport says falls in traffic there, which have been blamed on Shannon's independence, are a "one-off".

Niall MacCarthy has told a business briefing in Cork that Shannon's business model and debt write-down allows it to strike deals with airlines that no commercial airport can compete with, and describes Shannon as "ultra-low cost"
Cork airport lost 110,000 passengers last year, and blames much of the decline on growth at Shannon.
Mr. MacCarthy admits this has hit Cork bad – in the Dáil recently, Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin hit out at government for allowing this to happen, and said Shannon's gains add no value to the country.
