A Clare Fine Gael Senator says it’s disappointing that it has taken so long for the government to react to the storm that ravaged the county’s coastline.
Following a special meeting on Friday, Clare County Council submitted a request to the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government for almost €24m to repair damage and bolster flood defences in the aftermath of Storm Christine.
It’s expected the issue will be discussed at a Cabinet meeting tomorrow, but Ennistymon Senator Martin Conway believes talks should have already occurred.
Meanwhile, in one of the worst-affected areas, fears have been expressed that the repair bill while not be enough.
While nearly two million euro is sought for works at New Quay, Tubber Fianna Fail Councillor Michael Kelly says he believes road re-construction along the Flaggy Shore and the construction of a Sea Wall could cost much more.
