Conway Concerned At Chef Shortage Impact On Tourism

Clare’s Senator claims it’s easier to get a brain surgeon in Ireland nowadays than a chef.

Fine Gael’s Martin Conway is concerned that the tourist sector will suffer because of a nationwide shortage in qualified chefs, with the Restaurant Association of Ireland recruiting from overseas to meet the shortfall.

He’s calling for the re-establishment of the former state agency CERT, which provided culinary courses, to up the ante in addressing the shortage.

The Minister of State for Training and Skills has assured that courses are still being provided, though Senator Conway wants the scope of these expanded:
