Studies have revealed that converting the West Clare powerstation to biomass would cost in the region of 250 million euro and while Alex White says he cannot rule out such a conversion, the cost associated with it wouldn't be sustainable.

The Government's recently-published White Paper on Energy says key decisions will be taken on Moneypoint before 2020 and that coal will remain a significant element of our power generation mix for the next decade.

Minister White says coal will have to be phased out.
