A contract to operate Clare's dog pound is expected to be awarded "before Christmas".

Clare County Council has told local representatives that the process to appoint a new company to run the facility is nearing completion.
It had been embroiled in controversy in recent months, when local animal rights groups were among those who took part in demonstrations as Cork firm ACS was due to be appointed.
The Council's 2016 budget shows an increase of around 7,000 euro in the amount of money set aside to operate the service next year.
