Gardaí say they're keeping an open mind in the investigation into the killing of David Byrne in a Dublin hotel on Friday.
It's after the continuity IRA claimed they were responsible for the murder of 33 year old in Drumcondra on Friday.
The Minister for Justice says the force had no operational intelligence to indicate the shooting was about to occur.
Frances Fitzgerald says officers would have been at the venue – had intelligence suggested they were needed.
In a statement to the BBC, a man claiming to speak on behalf of the leadership of the Continuity IRA said its members were responsible for the Dublin attack.
They said Mr Byrne was targeted because he had been involved in the killing of Alan Ryan in Dublin four years ago.
32 year old Ryan, was a leading member of another dissident republican group, the Real IRA
