Clare’s construction sector shows little signs of recovery from the economic downturn.

Planning permission was granted for 26 new homes in the final three months of last year, the lowest figure for any quarter since CSO records began in 2001.
New figures from the central statistics office also show that while one application sought permission to construct five new homes, this was the only application for more than one home in the county.
In all last year, local authorities in Clare granted permission for 139 new housing units, down from 216 the year before.
