Confidence Vote In Alan Shatter As Taping Scandal Hits Prison Service

Justice Minister Alan Shatter faces a vote on his political future tonight – when a motion of confidence in him is put to the Dáil.

The vote comes despite revelations that conversations between 139 prisoners and their solicitors were recorded – with 81 accessed by prison staff.

The Prison Service confirmed that it was aware of the recordings last November – but the Director of the Service only found out their full extent last week – before telling the Minister yesterday.
