It’s claimed the provision of security cameras in secluded wooded areas can bring illegal dumping in Clare to a permanent halt.
The Local Government Management Agency and the Data Protection Commissioner are in the process of drafting a new code of practice which would allow CCTV, body cameras and drones to be deployed to tackle the illicit behaviour.

Between 2018 and 2022 , 578 fines were issued in Clare for illegal dumping, with less than half of these subsequently enforced.
Cratloe Fianna Fáil Councillor Pat O’Gorman says preventing the crime is preferable to catching perpetrators in the act.
