Confidence Expressed In Shannon Airport Despite Ryanair Scale-Back

Confidence is being expressed that Shannon Airport will continue to go from strength to strength.

That's despite a decision by Ryanair to scale back flights from the airport to some of its UK destinations.

The airline has not confirmed the extent of the changes, but currently some of its flights between both Manchester and London-Stansted can't be booked for dates in November, and in the New Year.

No routes are being cut completely, but Ryanair has told Clare FM that they are pivoting away from UK airports, and focussing instead on EU airports in the wake of the Brexit referendum result.

Despite the news, the President of Shannon Chamber Julie Dickerson remains confident the airport will continue to grow and says there's no reason routes to the UK can't be profitable.

Meanwhile the CEO of Shannon Heritage insists there are continuous effort to secure further routes.

John Ruddle says there's a strong management structure in place with extensive aviation experience.
