Concerns RSV Cases In Midwest Putting ‘Extreme’ Pressure On Hospital Services

A specialist in public health medicine in the region is raising concerns that local cases of the RSV virus are putting ‘extreme’ pressure on hospital services.

Provisional data shows 206 cases of the infection have been recorded in the Midwest since October.

Increased incidences of croup and chest infections are being seen in children as a result, with paediatric services at University Hospital Limerick reportedly managing higher attendances of infants with respiratory illnesses than ever before.
