Bus Éireann this week announced predicted losses of around 8 million euro for 2016, with its acting CEO Ray Hernan warning that the company could be insolvent within 18 months.
The future of its Expressway service, which operates between the likes of Galway, Ennis, Shannon Airport and Limerick is now in doubt, though Bus Eireann says it will hold onto this portion of the company.
It's other services, which are supported by the Government, are not currently under threat.
Clare County Council is to invite a delegation from the National Bus and Rail workers Union to address local representatives on national policy.
It follows a motion by Killaloe Councillor and Tony O'Brien, who believes the National Transport Authority's policies on licences for private companies has led to the demise of the public service.
