Concerns over Health Services Plan for Mid West

Concern has been expressed that the HSE’s plans for further cutbacks in local health services could come as a step too far for doctors and nursing staff.

The 1.2 billion euro service plan for the HSE West includes funding boosts for Clare daycare services, but also cuts to spending on disability and older people services in the region.

The number of staff is to be cut by 650, and the HSE admits it continues to face a number of challenges, including the delivery of these cost reduction targets.

Coming days after unions representing nurses and doctors walked out of the Croke Park extension talks, Green Party Councillor and Health Forum West member Brian Meaney has expressed fears about the impact of this.
