Concerns Of Fading Community Influence In Clare’s Rural Policy

It’s feared the community influence in Clare’s rural policy is fading.

Following a review of Strategic Policy Committees in June, the Government has issued guidelines recommending they hold a minimum of just two meetings per year.

Clare is currently the only local authority in the country with a dedicated Rural Development Strategy, which was heavily influenced by input from the four agriculture and community development representatives on the council’s rural SPC.

Chairperson and Maghera Fianna Fáil Councillor Pat Hayes says its vital for promotion of farming and population growth.
