Concerns have been expressed as to why Clare voters turned out in such low numbers to vote in last weeks referendum.
38.6% of Clare voters attended polling stations around the county to have their say on the future of the Seanad and the establishment of a Court of Appeal – while national turnout was also low at 39.2%
While some local representatives feel Ireland should take on the Australian model where those who don’t vote get fined Ennis Fine Gael Cllr Mary Howard says these low figures are alarming.
