Concerns Developing On Ennis Riverside Car Parks Could Result In Major Flooding Damage

Concerns have been raised that developing on Ennis’s riverside car parks could run the risk of major flooding damage in the years to come.

Following scenes of devastation caused by Storm Ciarán across the country in recent weeks, a Clarecastle councillor has questioned the logic behind proposals to build mixed-use developments in Ennis’s Abbey Street and Parnell Street car parks.

At this month’s meeting of the Ennis Municipal District, Senior Executive Engineer Eamon O’Dea stated that flooding “as witnessed in Midleton is unlikely to occur” in the county town due to its flood protection scheme and tidal barrage.
