Concern Raised about Clare Gorse Fires

The Clare Fire Service says it's worried that more gorse fires could occur here over the coming days, if the weather remains dry.

Local fire personnel dealt with three gorse fires yesterday in the Doonbeg, Kilmaley and Connolly areas, while in South Galway their colleagues from Gort and Loughrea spent over four hours battling a significant blaze in the Derrybrien/Castledaly area last night.

Landowners have been reminded that it is an offence to burn growing vegetation at present, and that illegal burning can jeopardise the safety of dwellings and families.

Dennis O'Connell, acting fire chief of the Clare Fire Service, has been telling me what they know about the fires here.
