Concern over level of vacant housing in Clare.

The level of vacant housing throughout Clare has been described as frightening with calls for some of the empty property to be redirected if possible into badly needed housing schemes.

Census figures reveal there are over 11,700 such dwellings here and while over 4 thousand are holiday homes, the rest are vacant houses or flats.

The vacancy rate in Clare stands at over 21 percent – which is much higher than the national average of 14.5
