The vote is seen as a huge political gamble by the Prime Minister George Papandreou who is facing growing opposition inside his party to resist the debt deal.
A confidence vote on the measures is expected to be held in parliament on Friday, with the referendum likely to be held early next year.
A weekend poll revealed that nearly 60 percent of Greeks are NOT in favour of the plan – which will lead to spending cuts and higher taxes.
