It comes as the HSE's Service Plan has cast doubt over the opening date for the new unit, saying it's due to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2017, despite previous reassurances that it would be fully operational in May.
Sources have indicated that patients will still be seen in the new ED from May, but that has not been officially confirmed.
Kilmaley Councillor Tom McNamara hopes that will be the case.
