Concern Over New Portal For Forestry Licenses

It’s claimed that a new online portal for Forestry Licensing does nothing to clear a backlog in the system.

There are approximately 4,700 forest licence applications currently in the system, and at various stages of processing.

Of these, around 2,000 have been referred to ecologists for an appropriate assessment, and a backlog has built up over the last 18 months.

Yesterday, Minister Pippa Hackett announced the launch of a new public portal for Forestry Licencing that will allow people to view, and ultimately to make submissions on forestry license applications.

Former Clare Councillor Brian Meaney, a forest owner based in Darragh, says much more action is needed.
