Concern is being expressed over an almost 100% increase in the number of uninsured drivers.

The Motor Insurance Bureau of Ireland is warning that there were over 151,000 uninsured private vehicles on Irish Roads last month, compared with around 82,000 at the same time in 2013.

It's urgently reminding motorists that being insured is not a choice but a strict legal obligation.

The Bureau has previously revealed that it's had to handle 18 claims from Clare in respect of incidents involving an uninsured driver.

CEO of Munster Group Insurance, Padraic McNicholas says the cost of insurance has risen at such an alarming rate, that it has become unaffordable for many people.
