Serious concern has been raised in Clare about the level of undiagnosed Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and the lack of specialist supports available to families.
New figures show 57% of children referred to Ennis-headquartered FASD Ireland in the first three months of this year showed evidence of prenatal alcohol exposure.
Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder is a lifelong neurodevelopmental condition caused by alcohol exposure before birth and is estimated to affect 381,000 people across the country, many of whom remain undiagnosed.
Chief Executive Officer of Ennis-based FASD Ireland, Tristan Casson-Rennie says they’re snowed under with calls from concerns parents with children aged six and under.
