Concern is being expressed for the future availability of parking in Ennis, once the new county library is up and running.
A planning application has been lodged for the €8.6 million facility beside the Glór theatre and it’s expected to come before the local authority next month.
The current Glór carpark is expected to be retained but fear is being expressed that the town centre workers currently using it will be forced to park elsewhere, adding to the pressures.
Plans for Clare’s new county library have been in the public domain for some time.
The new state-of-the-art facility will be located beside the glór theatre and is expected to cost in the region of €8.6 million.
However, it’s shone a light on the parking issue in Ennis.
It is expected that the current 90-space carpark will be retained.
But that’s currently used mainly by town centre workers and former Mayor of Ennis Johnny Flynn is concerned that it’ll become the library carpark – meaning those 90 people will have to park out in the town.
It’s not the first time the shortage of parking in Ennis has been highlighted – concern has been expressed in the past about the lack of available spaces on match days as well as busy times of the year.
People on the streets of Ennis had mixed views on the current parking situation in the county town, but told Clare FM they’d like to see more parking.
Outside of parking in #dunnes it’s always a fight… No planning thought at all into rising car traffic in the town
