Concern Over Fall-Off In Level Of Community Policing

Concern has been expressed at a fall-off in the numbers of Gardaí involved in community policing.

It’s after figures released to the Dáil show there are now fewer than 700 community Gardaí, down from over 1,100 seven years ago.

In Clare, there were 8 community Gardaí last year – the figure has remained steady in recent years, but was as high as 13 in 2011.

The Chair of Clare’s Joint Policing Committee Councillor Mary Howard has been telling me community Gardaí do invaluable work in this county.
