Concern expressed over possible closure of Clare post offices

Clare Councillors have expressed concern that up to 20 of the county’s post offices could close under government plans to reform the social welfare system.

Local representatives have joined with the Irish Postmasters’ Union in calling for a reverse of government plans to replace over-the-counter payments with a purely electronic system.

The IPU says this would cost postmasters an average of 18 thousand euro a year, and lead to the closure of 400 offices nationwide.
