Concerns been expressed as a long standing business in Kilrush prepares to shut its doors with the loss of over half a dozen jobs.
O’Dwyer’s Building Suppliers and DIY Superstore on the Cooraclare Road in the West Clare Town is closing down at the end of March with seven staff facing redundancy, coming just months after the firm shut its base in Ennis.
However speaking to Clare FM owner John O’Dwyer insists its business as usual at his premises in Miltown Malbay which employs 18 people and from where he will continue all his deliveries from.
Mr O ‘Dwyer expressed deep disappointment at having to "dismantle a business that took 30 years to build" but stated that falling sales coupled with the economic downturn didn’t justify keeping the Kilrush or Ennis stores open.
Local Fianna Fail Councillor Tom Prendeville says its a huge blow for the West Clare town but says the council will liaise with the chamber in an effort to find an alternative business.
