Concern has been raised in Clare that footage obtained by rural CCTV schemes may be inadmissible in court.
A number of these schemes exist around the country, some of which are in this county – where cameras are erected on approach roads to rural towns and villages to deter criminals.

The Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice has been asked to carry out a study on how to best advance these schemes and to report back to the Justice Minister.
Ennis Fine Gael Councillor Mary Howard, who is the Chair of the Joint Policing Committee is concerned that the footage collected by these cameras isn’t standing up in court.
