A West Clare turf cutter insists a compromise can be reached on the phasing out of smoky fuels, as long as no cliff edge measures are implemented.
It follows confirmation from the Taoiseach that Bord na Móna’s peat briquettes won’t be included in new regulations banning the sale of smoky fuels this year, as they meet environmental standards.

Willie Hanrahan, who’s a member of the Clare Branch of the Turf Cutters and Contractors Association admits measures must be taken to address air quality, particularly in urban areas, including resrticting the use of smoky fuels.
But the Tullaher turf cutter says a reasonable approach must be taken.
