Complex And Problematic Cases Increasing For Clare Homeless Action Team

Clare’s Homeless Action Team is dealing with an increasing number of complex and problematic cases.

The latest figures from the local authority show there’s been a 40% increase in numbers availing of emergency accommodation in the last year.

At the end of November, 24 families were living in homeless shelters in Clare, comprised of 109 adults and 40 dependents or children, which is a total of 149.

It marks an increase of 40% on the 68 adults and 39 dependents living in emergency accommodation last year.

In the same timeframe, seven new accommodation providers have come on stream, bringing this county’s total to 17, and the local authority is now seeking expressions of interest for more.

The level of complex and problematic cases presenting to the Homeless Action Team in Clare is also increasing, which the council says is creating additional demand for Emergency Accommodation provided in a safe and appropriate manner.

The council has also noted a significant rise in presentations from households experiencing family and relationship breakdown, Hospital discharges, prison releases, addiction and mental health concerns.

While there’s also been a surge in cases arising from the Traveller Community.

At the end of November, 13 households had exited homelessness in Clare, 1 of which was excluded from Emergency Accommodation.
